Justin Rose has thanked the mind coach who used a Star Wars movie to help him beat "nerves" and become US Open champion.
Rose missed his first 21 cuts as a professional, then struggled to close out tournaments on Sundays.
But the 32-year-old Brit admits sports shrink Dr Gio Valiante has made a big difference since they started working together in 2010.
Rose, who banked £890,000 in prize money for Sunday's triumph at Merion, said: "There is a stigma about it, but it is not like you have a problem. It is to deal with life and have everything in balance.
"I did some breathing techniques - pre-round breathing. I think absolutely that was a huge key for me.
"I was absolutely nervous on the 18th. My heart-rate was elevated, probably running at 160 beats per minute. With that comes adrenaline and a little bit of a shake in the hands.
"But just because you are nervous doesn't mean you are going to hit a bad shot.
"Mentally, that is what I have had to get over during my career. That's when you have to trust your training and ability and see good things happening.
"Ultimately I felt on Sunday for the most part I was in control."
Valiante revealed earlier this week that he made Rose watch a scene from The Empire Strikes Back before Merion - he wanted the Englishman to see a particular scene with hero Luke Skywalker receiving advice from his Jedi mentor Yoda.
"I believed Justin was talented enough to win a Major," Valiante explained. "The clip was an example of a young man coming into his own and finally being ready to take the moment.
"I said, 'This is your time: your training is done, just do what you have been taught to do.'"
